K-Series Review: Intense rollercoaster ride of feels in Disney+’s “The Tyrant”

Brace yourselves for the intense rollercoaster ride of feels in The Tyrant.

The Tyrant depicts the story of the disappearance of the last sample of bioweapon referred to as “The Tyrant Project,” which holds limitless potential for the advancement of humanity during the secret handover between Korean and US Intelligence agencies. Parties on both sides will go to war to recover the stolen bioweapon with different motives.

The Characters

Kim Seon Ho plays the role of Director Choi, the mastermind behind “The Tyrant Project.” He is an extremist patriot determined to unleash his country’s true potential. He does everything to protect and achieve his goals. His bravery is commendable! Seon Ho is back on the small screen following his rom-com series, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. He once again proved his versatility in acting through his role here. He plays the most relaxed character here in terms of the action scenes. He is cool-headed but the feisty look in his eyes is visible.

Kim Kang Woo who recently appeared in Wonderful World portrays Paul, a U.S. intelligence agent who has the mission to destroy the last sample of “The Tyrant Project.” From revenge drama to action thriller, Kang Woo did a great job of making the viewers immersed in his role.

Seon Ho and Kang Woo previously worked in the film, The Childe so it is so great to see them again together in this series bringing another level of chemistry they created in their previous work. The tension and conflict of their characters here are something the viewers can’t miss.

Cha Seung Won transforms into a cold-blooded highly skilled former assassin, Im Sang. He has been commissioned on the mission of finding the last sample of “The Tyrant Project.” Seung Won perfectly portrays the role of Im Sang, his dark humor balances the intense atmosphere in the series. He’s a veteran actor who knows how to captivate us with his acting skills.

Jo Yoon Soo plays the role of Chae Ja Gyeong, the daughter of a highly skilled technician. She grew up with dissociative identity disorder and has the task of getting the last sample. Yoon Soo is a new face to me, but I must say that she nailed playing Chae Ja Gyeong. She is awesome in many ways from delivering her lines, to executing her action scenes, and her duality in this series is impressive!

My Thoughts

This is a must-watch series! While watching The Tyrant, it reminds me of the series, Moving where the series also tackles about the superhumans and has a lot of jaw-dropping action scenes. It’s really fascinating!

The cinematography is great, and director Park Hoon Jung helmed it creatively, making his debut series unique and fun to watch. He did a great job in selecting such powerhouse cast members who pulled off their respective roles. He is such a brilliant director! No wonder why The Witch and The Childe were such successful works of his.

The Tyrant made me realize the power of science and that Director Choi’s invention is a double-edged sword that can create development and also peril to humanity.

The Tyrant is now streaming on Disney+! 💙
