Golden Child’s Y is back after completing his military service!
Choi Sungyoon is finally back after serving at the 5th Artillery Brigade of the Republic of Korea Army! He finished his service as a sergeant.

Last March 20, 2024, Choi Sungyoon, popularly known as Y, entered the military to fulfill his duty to his country. He is the second member of Golden Child to complete the mandatory military service next to Lee Daeyeol.
Through his agency, Woollim Entertainment, Y shared, “It feels like just yesterday that I enlisted, but here I am already being discharged. I did my best with the mindset of protecting the country as a Korean soldier, and it was a time that made me feel grateful for the people and things I love.”
Y thanked his fans, the Goldenness, for their support and for cheering for him through the lonely times. He said, “I missed you all so much and wanted to see you again.”
Just a month ago, three of their members, TAG, Jibeom, and Bomin, left the group and their agency. Y said that there were many changes in the team during his military service but he will come back more mature and stronger, ready to repay his fans.
Y is a member of the boy group Golden Child. He debuted with his group on August 28, 2017, with their debut album GOL-CHA! He holds the main vocal position in the group.
Before Y enlisted in the military, he debuted as a soloist with the song “If I Were The Wind.” Now that he’s back, fans are looking forward to more of his solo and group activities with his members.
During his military service, a special series titled “Captain Ppo is Here” was released throughout the year. In these videos, he did various content such as his enlistment and haircut with the members, Christmas tree making, a personal color diagnosis, travel vlogs, and a lot more. This special series helped his fans to know him more and of course, to miss him less while he was away.
Y is set to meet his fans tomorrow via a live broadcast at 4 PM KST through the web platform Weverse.
Congratulations on completing your military service, Sungyoon! Thank you for coming back strong and healthy! Now that you’re back, we are looking forward to more of you and Golden Child!
