6 Places You Should Visit to Know More About the History and Culture of South Korea

To all the fans of Hallyu or the Korean wave, South Korea is known as the land of our Favorite K-Pop idols and K-drama Oppas/Unnies. But did you know that Korea has an interesting history and culture that most of us didn’t know?

Last 2018, Annyeong Oppa was invited to the ASEAN CULTURE HOUSE INVITATION PROGRAM FOR HALLYU FANS as one of the Philippine Delegates alongside ABS-CBN’s Asianovela Channel Head, Mark Awiten and Philippine K-POP Convention Inc. President, Jessica Juan.

During our 7 days tour in Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju, I discovered lots of amazing facts and history about the South Korean culture.

• National Hangeul Museum

Address: 139 Seobinggo-ro, Yongsandong 6(yuk)-ga, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Of all the places that we’ve been to, this is one of the most educating stop that we had. To those of you who want to learn Hangeul, this is a must-visit place in South Korea. There’s a tour guide that can speak english fluently, you can definitely understand the history of the Korean language easily.

• CheongWaDae SarangChae

Address: 45 Hyoja-ro 13-gil, Hyoja-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea

It is a tourist promotion center designed for visitors to be able to understand the history of the former korean presidents as well as the korean traditional culture.

 

 

As our tour guide said, most koreans have a very strong opinions regarding politics. They are very hands-on when it comes to political stuff such as elections, etc.

• Gamcheon Culture Village

Address: Gamcheon-dong, Saha District, Busan, South Korea

It is known as the Machu Picchu of Busan. If you are planning to go to Busan, this is the place you shouldn’t miss. It has a relaxing vibe with a calming scenery. It is also one of the famous tourist destination in Busan. In fact, it attracts thousands of tourist from different countries every year. The village also bagged the 2012 UN-HABITAT Asian Townscape Award as well as the Cultural Excellence Award from Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

• Daerungwon Ancient Tombs

Address: 14 Gyerim-ro, Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea

This place was made in 1973. This is characterized as the typical upper class tomb during the Silla dynasty (Mga bes, do you remember the K-Drama Hwarang starring Park Seo-joon, Go Ara and Park Hyungsik? The series was set in Silla Dynasty. 😉)

• Changdeokgung Palace

Address: 99 Yulgok-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea 03072

During the Joseon Era, this was considered as the secondary palace. But after the Japanese Invasion, it was rebuilt in 1610 and served as the main palace approximately 270 years. It was admired by most of the kings of Joseon Dynasty because of it’s beautiful garden and relaxing ambience.

• Korean Cuisine Culture Center

Address: 4th floor of CKL Business Support Centet, Cheongyecheon, Seoul, South Korea

This is one of the best parts of this trip. We got the chance to make the delicious traditional Korean snack called Kang-jung.

There are alot of interesting and educational places in South Korea. The best part of this trip was we get the chance to travel and appreciate the beauty of South Korea and at the same time, we are learning their culture and history.

Plus, we also got the chance to meet new friends from different parts of South East Asia.
