Kim Sungkyu is back and will be hosting his first on-tact fan meeting for 2021 to unite with his fans. The fan meeting is titled with his initials ‘ㅅㄱ (S K)’ and will start on Sunday, October 31 at 3 PM KST and Monday, November 1 at 7:30 PM KST.
Before his upcoming online fan meeting, let’s get to know more about INFINITE‘s leader Kim Sungkyu!

A Taurus Baby
Kim Sungkyu is a South Korean singer and actor. He was born on April 28, 1989, in Jeonju, South Korea.
Rock band artist turned Kpop idol
During his high school years in Jeonju National University High School, Kim Sungkyu was in the school rock band called ‘Coma Beat’. Even though his parents rejected his dream to become a singer, he continued to practice in secret and came to Seoul alone to pursue his dreams after graduating from high school.

To fulfill his dreams, he auditioned to several Entertainment agencies but failed to cut. Due to his admiration for the rock band Nell, a South Korean alternative rock band under Woollim Entertainment, he auditioned to the same entertainment under the recommendation of Nell’s manager.
Originally intending to pursue rock music in a band, Sungkyu instead became a trainee for the dance group INFINITE, of which he would later assume the positions of leader and main vocalist. The said group made its debut on June 9, 2010, and continuously making good music.
Practical Music Graduate

Along with INFINITE members Kim Myungsoo, Lee Sungyeol, Jang Dongwoo, and Hoya (former), they graduated from the Daekyung University’s Practical Music program and received the ‘Proud Daekyung University Student Award’ last 2013.
Debut with INFINITE’s members and activities
Before their debut, INFINITE participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics by providing vocals in the chorus of Epik High’s supporting song. The group released their debut mini-album ‘First Invasion’ and its lead single ‘Come Back Again’.

They also unofficially debuted in Japan with their first Japanese single ‘To-Ra-Wa’, on January 26, 2011, which was a Japanese version of their Korean debut song, “Come Back Again”.
On August 30, 2017, it was announced that Hoya had officially left the group after deciding to not renew his contract with Woollim Entertainment, while the other six members renewed their contract.

The remaining six members continued as a group, releasing their third studio album, Top Seed, in January 2018 and considered their latest comeback as a six-member group.
Musical Actor
Kim Sungkyu made his debut as a musical actor, along with INFINITE’s Nam Woohyun, in the musical ‘Gwanghwamun Sonata’. He plays the role of Jiyong, the son of the female lead. The musical lasted from January 3 until March 11, 2012.

It was announced that Sungkyu would join ‘Immortal Songs 2’ as a fixed member alongside Super Junior’s Ryeowook in May 2012. His first performance on the show was aired on June 23 but in July, it was announced that he would be leaving the show due to INFINITE’s overseas promotions.
Sungkyu was cast in the musical VAMPIRE along with Super Junior’s Sungmin and F.T. Island’s Lee Hongki, in 2014. He was also cast in the musical ‘In the Heights’, along with INFINITE’s Jang Dongwoo. He played the main role ‘Benny’ with EXO’s Chen and actor Seo Kyungsoo.

On January 25, 2018, it was announced that Sungkyu will be participating in his first play, ‘Amadeus’, taking on the role of Mozart.
Solo Debut
Kim Sungkyu released his solo EP, ‘Another Me’ on November 19, 2012. Nell’s Kim Jongwan gave his composed ‘Shine’ to Sungkyu as a gift for his pre-release, which was released on November 7, 2012. Sungkyu also composed the title track ’60 Seconds’ with Sweetune and personally participated in writing the lyrics for the track ’41 Days’.
Variety and Television Roles
In January 2013, Sungkyu was confirmed to be a fixed cast on JTBC Lee Soogeun and Kim Byungman’s ‘High Society 2’ along with Super Junior’s Shindong.
After a month, Sungkyu was confirmed to have made a cameo appearance in KBS’s new sitcom ‘A Bit of Love’ alongside four other idols, MBLAQ’s G.O, KARA’s Seungyeon, ZE:A’s Siwan, and SECRET’s Jieun.

On January 29, 2015, Sungkyu was confirmed to star in the new KBS variety show, ‘Fluttering India’ along with EXO’s Suho, CNBLUE’s Jonghyun, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, TVXQ’s Changmin, and SHINee’s Minho.
Later that year, it was revealed that Sungkyu would star in a new KBS series, ‘Youth Express’, alongside comedian Kim Sook and actor Park Jaemin. And in June 2016, he hosted JTBC’s variety show ‘Girl Spirit’ with comedian Cho Seho.
First Solo Concert and Military Enlistment
Before enlisting, Sungkyu announced his first solo concert ‘Shine’ which took place from May 5–7, 2018 in Seoul. The tickets for all three concert days were sold out within 3 minutes.

On the last day of his solo concert, Sungkyu made the surprise announcement that he is enlisting into the military on May 14, 2018. He then completed his military service on January 8, 2020, and held a mini-fan meeting following his discharge.
Departure from Woollim
Sungkyu chose not to renew his contract and left Woollim Entertainment on March 6, 2021. After his departure, he released his first single album Won’t Forget You and its title track ‘Hush’, on March 29 as his last work under Woollim.
After the expiration of his contract with Woollim, he signed with Double H TNE on June 14, 2021.
