An official from broadcasting industry confirmed on March 15 that Choi Woo Shik and Kim Da Mi were selected as the male and female leads of Studio N’s first and original drama, We That Year (literal translation).
We That Year is a romantic comedy drama about the complex and subtle feelings of a couple who had a bad break up, but they were forced to see each other again in front of the camera when the documentary film they created 10 years ago became popular.
Studio N is a subsidiary of Naver Webtoon and they were looking for actors who will represent the symbolism of their first self-produced drama.
“In that sense, the double casting of Choi Woo Shik and Kim Da Mi, who have a combination of solid acting skills and popularity can be seen as the result of the studio’s hard work in finding the actors,” an official said.
Choi Woo Shik will play the character of Choi Woong who looks like immature and free-spirited but his sincerity will come out when he finds something he wants in life for the first time.
Kim Da Mi on the other hand, will take the role of Gook Yeon Soo who once had a goal of taking no. 1 place during her school days, but she is now living her adult life fiercely while adapting to the reality with a wounded heart.
Moreover, the two actors received high-praises on their 2018 film together titled The Witch: Subversion, in which they portrayed cool and ferocious character.
They also rose to fame in their respective fields as Choi Woo Shik entered the global scene with his character in the movie, Parasite and Kim Da Mi gained more popularity in her hit-drama with Park Seo Joon titled Itaewon Class.
We That Year will air in a new way called Drama + Webtoon Simultaneous Planning and Production, different from the existing drama-based Webtoons.
Webtoons with the same title will be introduced through Naver Webtoon and the dramas will reportedly produce having a total of 16 episodes.
