Last year, Kim Taeyeon released her sixth extended play, “Letter to Myself,” which contains different side tracks that feature different facets of her musical artistry.

1. Letter to Myself

I wrote a letter to myself
Clumsily writing down my feelings
The words I’ve pushed down deep
More than any other words
I hope I don’t lose you
I wrote a letter to myself
Now I see the forgotten me
Meeting the part of me that was hidden
Facing myself properly
I hear the voices in my head

This song talks about the struggles and pains she experienced in the past and coming out braver and stronger. While listening to this song, you can feel her sincere heart comforting listeners and encouraging them that everything will be alright as long as you don’t give up and keep up the good fight.

2. Hot Mess

I-I-I’m a hot mess
And you, you ain’t so different
In this chaotic world
I’m falling apart with you
I’m a hot mess
Break it down harder
In this twisted world
I’m shattering even more clearly

Hot Mess conveys a message of accepting flaws in this chaotic world, embracing the messiness of life and imperfections. It is such an impactful song, reminding us that vulnerability is not a weakness.

3. Blue Eyes

Before I knew it, I was wrapped in your arms
A person like you, yeah
You dive into my everything
Can you feel this ticklish heartbeat?
This pounding heart, yeah
Dive into my everything (Everything)

Blue Eyes is a song about the deep emotional connection with someone with whom she feels safe despite all the uncertainties in this world. The song also implies the beautiful and the complicated side of a relationship.

4. Strangers

Like a passing breeze
I move my steps gently
Through unfamiliar streets
From strangers to shadows
To strangers again

Strangers express the feeling of being unfamiliar with a place where they don’t know. Briefly interacting with unknown people and sharing different experiences in life which creates a great impact on someone.

5. Blur

I pretend to be okay, hiding it all
Those gossips acting as if that’s all of me
Trapped in uncertain colors
What was I really for?

Blur is a song that conveys a feeling of being lost in a world full of chaos and societal pressure. It tells her journey of breaking the chains of what others want her to be and doing what she wants to do.

6. Disaster

Maybe we’re a disaster
Held deeper in each other’s arms
Digging into each other deeply
Jump now, I can’t stop
It’s a perfect disaster

Disaster is about the highs and lows of every relationship amidst all the struggles and painful experiences. When there is love, everything is still beautiful.
