Formed by RBW (Rainbow Bridge World), MAMAMOO consists of four talented and lovable members namely, Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa. They debuted on June 18, 2014, with Mr. Ambiguous under their first EP, Hello.

Moreover, MAMAMOO’s name has a deep meaning, the members want to approach listeners organically and instinctively with their music.

Real Name: Kim Yong Sun
Birthday: February 21, 1991
Position: Leader, Main Vocalist

After the successful debut of her group, she appeared in the 2015 rom-com fantasy web series, Imaginary Cat as Jung Soo In. The following year, she joined the variety show called We Got Married along with Eric Nam, their overflowing chemistry made them win the Best Couple Award.

In 2018, she dropped her first solo EP, Solar’s Emotion, and officially debuted as a soloist on April 23, 2020, with her single album, Spit It Out. Two years after, she released her EP, Face which consists of five tracks namely, Raw, Chap Chap, Big Booty, Ziggle Ziggle, and it’s the lead single, Honey.

Solar had a soundtrack appearance in the dramas, Twenty Again, Run On, Vincenzo, Lovers of the Red Sky, School 2021, and Kill Heel.

She recently debuted as a theater actress in a musical play called Mata Hari playing the titular role named Mata Hari, a spy, and entertainer during World War 1.

She along with her MAMAMOO co-member, Moonbyul are members of the group’s sub-unit, MAMAMOO+ which debuted on August 30 this year with the digital single Better featuring BIG Naughty.

In addition, Solar lived in the Philippines for a brief time.

Moonbyul

Real Name: Moon Byul Yi
Birthday: December 22, 1992
Position: Main Rapper

Initially, Moonbyul auditioned to be a vocalist but changed to become a rapper instead. Following the successful debut of her group, she starred in the 2015 romantic web series, Start Love as Yoo Na Young.

She debuted as a soloist on May 23, 2018, with the single, Selfish featuring Red Velvet’ Seulgi. Two years later, she released her first EP, Dark Side of the Moon. her second EP, 6equence was released last January 19.

Moonbyul and Gaho collaborated for Hanyang Diaries OST titled, Half of Half which was released on October 7, last year.

She recently competed with seven female rapper idols in a survival show, The Second World, and won first place, proving that she is indeed a great vocalist with strong and impressive vocals.

She and Solar are members of MAMAMOO’s sub-unit, MAMAMOO+.

Wheein

Real Name: Jung Whee In
Birthday: April 17, 1995
Position: Vocalist

Wheein debuted as a solo artist on April 17, 2018, with her first single, Easy. The following year, she released her single album, Soar with the single, Good Bye.

After three years, she released her first EP, Redd which consists of seven tracks namely, Water Color as its lead track, Trash, Ohoo, Butterfly, Springtime, No Thanks, and the English version of Water Color.

Following the successful release of her first EP, she dropped her second EP, Whee on January 16, this year. It consists of six tracks- Make Me Happy, Pink Cloud, Letter Filled with Light, Deserve (Interlude), Pastel, and Paraglide.

In August 2021, Wheein signed an exclusive contract with Ravi’s agency, THEL1VE and extended her contract with RBW, she will be promoting with MAMAMOO until December 2023.

Hwasa

Real Name: Ahn Hye Jin
Birthday: July 23, 1995
Position: Maknae, Vocalist, Rapper

In 2019, Hwasa debuted as a soloist with her single, Twit. the following year she released her first EP, Maria. It was last year when she released her Guilty Pleasure album with, I’m a B as its lead track.

In 2020, she debuted as one of the members of the supergroup Refund Sisters with the single, Don’t Touch Me. In the same year, Hwasa lend her voice to The King: Eternal Monarch singing its OST titled, Orbit.

Fandom name

MooMoo is the name of MAMAMOO’s fandom, it is derived from the last part of their group’s name, and it also means radish in Korean which is why the official light stick looks like a radish.

A song dedicated to their fans

They created an official song for MOOMOOs titled I Love You Too which was released in 2016 under their EP, Memory.

This song is touching. Whenever I listen to this song, I can’t help to cry because I feel the message of the song and its sincerity toward the fans. It is such a beautiful song!

Latest comeback

Following the release of the compilation album, I Say Mamamoo: The Best, MAMAMOO recently had their comeback with their 12th mini album, MIC ON last October 11. It consists of three tracks namely, 1,2,3 Eoi, Illella, and L.I.E.C.

MAMAMOO Asia World Tour 2023

On November 16, MAMAMOO announced that they will be having their Asia “MY CON” world tour, including Manila in the countries to visit.

They recently had their three days concert in Seoul, South Korea which was held last November 18-20 at Olympic Hall.

I became a fan of MAMAMOO when I saw a video of Hwasa telling a story of the discrimination she got when she went to an audition. “If I don’t fit into today’s beauty standard, I will become a new and different standard” these words of hers amazed me and it will forever be engraved in my heart and mind.

MAMAMOO is not only just a girl group but such a great inspiration to everyone. They are worthy to stan and deserve to be loved by many. I love them not only because of their amazing talents but also their ability to empower women through their songs.

They are the standard, they are the best, period!
