[Press Release] 35 Korean Artists to Showcase Contemporary Oriental Art in 1st Exhibit in the Philippines

After highlighting Korean sensibilities and aesthetics inside a modern home, this time, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines are teaming up with Korean Contemporary Artists Association (KCAA) for a new multimedia exhibition.

The ‘Korean Contemporary Artists Association Exhibition 2019’, which will run from November 28, 2019 to February 28, 2020 at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, comes to the country as an integral part of the art and cultural festivities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Philippine and Korean bilateral relations and the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit.

The 17 artists, out of 35 exemplary artists participating in the exhibition, and KCAA President Shin Cheol-kyun, will be flying to the Philippines to take part on the opening reception organized by Ambassador Han Dong-man of the Republic of Korea.

With the theme ‘Korean Contemporary Art Today’, the exhibition will present a cultural identity of Korea and diverse facets of Korean Contemporary Arts. It will be the space where the Philippines and Republic of Korea will form a deep mutual understanding and examine the current state of oriental art by means of fine arts such as paintings, sculptures and installations.

Other than showcasing their artistry, KCAA also hopes that the artworks would inspire local artists to constantly pursue challenging and experimental art. This approach will not only continue the good relationship and the cultural exchange between the Philippines and Korea, it will also, hopefully, create a new visual language — one that can be a huge milestone for both countries.

Organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines together with Korean Contemporary Artists Association and Metropolitan Museum of Manila, “Korean Contemporary Artists’ Association Exhibition 2019” will be running from November 28, 2019 to February 28, 2020 at the Galeriya Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Metropolitan Museum of Manila.
