Renowned director Park Chan Wook, known for his films “Oldboy,” “The Handmaiden,” and “Decision to Leave,” has created yet another masterpiece film this 2025 with “No Other Choice,” a dark-comedy thriller film with a brilliant cast lineup!
Adapted from Donald E. Westlake’s novel “The Ax,” the film offers amusement, suspense, and thought-provoking elements that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The performances of seasoned Korean artists Lee Byung Hun, Son Ye Jin, Park Hee Soon, Lee Sung Min, Yeom Hye Ran, and Cha Seung Won truly bring the story to life with their emotional delivery and masterful acting.

The protagonist, Man Su, is an experienced paper manufacturing specialist who was suddenly laid off from the company he worked for 25 years. After living happily with his wife Miri, their two children, and two dogs, his life turned around completely after losing the job he had only ever known. With this, he makes a promise to get hired within three months to maintain their comfortable lifestyle as a family. But when Man Su fails to pass interviews and only got stuck doing side jobs, he comes close to losing their house that he worked very hard to own.

Feeling cornered, he applied to Moon Paper, then ended up being shamed by manager Sun Chul. Afterwards, Man Su takes it upon himself to create better chances for his survival by making a harsh decision. Facing challenges one after the other, the protagonist’s actions tread the fine line between right and wrong. The external and internal struggles Man Su goes through are unique yet familiar, leaving a lasting mark on viewers all around the world.

With its consistent deadpan tone and dark comedic timing throughout its duration, “No Other Choice” shows a thrilling, action-filled storyline that entices viewers while delivering a strong and relevant message on workers’ rights and the effects of AI on labor and various industries. The interconnection between the characters’ lives in the movie is crafted well to weave the story together while making use of artful cinematography and sound choices that enhance the entire viewing experience.
