“My Perfect Stranger” is a 2023 Korean drama starring Kim Dong Wook and Jin Ki Joo. It follows the story of Yoon Hae Jun, the youngest anchor at a broadcasting station, and Baek Yoon Young, a publishing company employee who once dreamed of being a writer, as they travel back in time to 1987.

Here are 5 reasons why “My Perfect Stranger” deserve to be included in your watch list:

Time Travel

One of the classic themes in K-dramas or movies in general, is the element of time travel. Despite having this common concept present, “My Perfect Stranger” remains an interesting watch because the time travel aspect is well-incorporated in the story and not overcomplicated. Fun fact, the time machine used here is a car!

The main characters, Hae Jun and Yoon Young, unexpectedly travel back in time together while having different motivations. Hae Jun is there to investigate a serial killing case, and Yoon Young wants to prevent her parents’ marriage. Seemingly unrelated at first, the two would find themselves connected to each other soon.

Murder Mystery

Another thing that makes the show engaging and keeps the viewers wanting to watch more is the main characters’ journey towards solving the mystery behind a serial killing case that occurred in 1987 which suddenly resurfaced in 2023.

As you go through the episodes, you would find yourself getting suspicious of many characters, and it’s really thrilling to think of the who real culprit could be. You would need major detective skills to figure out the truth behind many possibilities!

Cute Couples

Stuck in 1987 together, Hae Jun and Yoon Young start off hostile toward each other then become allies for their common goal. As time passes by, romance gradually buds between them, and it’s heartwarming to see their feelings develop for each other and witness their mature relationship.

Apart from these two, the younger version of Yoon Young’s parents, Lee Soon Ae and Baek Hee Sub (played by Seo Ji Hye and Lee Won Jung), also showcase a cute chemistry together as high school sweethearts. It’s heart-fluttering to see their adorable interactions with each other, despite Yoon Young’s efforts to keep them apart.

Family Dynamics

Both Hae Jun and Yoon Young face issues with their families in the present, which they try to face even in 1987. As the story progresses, it’s also revealed that Soon Ae and Hee Sub’s families have gone through hardships that either strengthened or weakened their bond together.

The series portrays what a family is in different ways, presenting the happy and hurtful moments that can arise among parents, children, and siblings. It’s touching and heart-wrenching to discover how problems within the families are resolved or get worse because of misunderstandings.

Life Lessons

Throughout the show, there are many life lessons that can be learned. This K-drama showed that living your life to the fullest means expressing yourself clearly to your loved ones in order to not have any regrets and making the most out of your time with them while you have the chance.

Here, you will also realize the beauty of youth that you shouldn’t take for granted because it will only come once in your life. Thus, you should cherish it and make the best memories you can with your friends.
