AO EXCLUSIVE: Makisama at mag-enjoy: HORI7ON shares experiences on doing the remake of ‘Sumayaw Sumunod’
Feeling the fun vibe from releasing their 2nd comeback single, HORI7ON opens the media conference with the live performance of ‘Sumayaw Sumunod‘. It was held on August 13th at the SM North EDSA Sky Dome and hosted by Chanty of Lapillus.
HORI7ON members Vinci, Jeromy, Marcus, Kyler, Reyster, Winston, and Kim expressed their happiness in working on a very popular OPM classic and how excited and proud they all are to introduce it to Korea and other parts of the world.
“(With this song), we want everyone to follow and dance along with us carelessly. The main message is makisama, mag-enjoy ka,” Marcus said.
For Vinci, doing a remake of the song and having this type of comeback is like a puzzle piece for HORI7ON to complete. From only releasing Tagalog ballad songs such as ‘Salamat‘ and ‘Mama’, having ‘Sumayaw Sumunod’ gives them the opportunity to show the joy and warm energy that Filipinos naturally have.
With the popularity of the original song in the Philippines, Winston looks forward to promoting their remake on music shows and making it popular not only in the Philippines but also in other countries.
The making of ‘Sumayaw Sumunod’

The music video of ‘Sumayaw Sumunod’ evidently shows how much fun the members had while doing it. From running around, playing some sports to some classroom “kulitan“, Marcus said that it was the most enjoyable music video to watch and to shoot. “For me, ‘Sumayaw Sumunod’ is top 1 on our music videos,” he added.
Vinci revealed that while recording the song, they had a hard time replicating the sound of the original singers, ‘The Boyfriends’. Exploring that kind of sound was interesting for the members as it goes hand in hand with exploring different genres as well.
The members participated in making the song, with Marcus contributing some lyrics for the Tagalog and English versions and Reyster helping out with the rap parts, expressing his happiness with this comeback. Main dancer and performance leader Jeromy was also involved in making the choreography for the 2nd verse, chorus, and dance break parts of the performance.
As for the plans for their promotions in Korea, Vinci said, “After we promote it here (in the Philippines), we’re going to come back to Korea and perform it in music shows. It’s going to be the first time for a Tagalog song to be showcased in Korean music shows. I hope everyone feels represented here in the Philippines because that’s what we’re trying to do with this comeback, really trying to go out there as a global pop group from the Philippines and showcase Filipino talent all over the world.”
Working with legendary Korean singer, Lee Seung Chul
Lee Seung Chul is a famous veteran singer in Korea. He recently made a comeback with the song ‘It’s Rainy Day’ where Kyler participated in by being the male lead of the music video.
HORI7ON attended his concerts and also performed with him. They narrated their experiences working with him.
In relation to the discussion, Annyeong Oppa had the opportunity to ask the members about the lessons they have learned from Lee Seung Chul who has been in the music industry for so long.
Vinci said that seeing him perform live gave them a push to be better performers. Moving forward, he hopes that HORI7ON can be as independent and intentional as Lee Seung Chul when performing.
Marcus also shared some behind-the-scenes preparations and moments with the veteran singer and the valuable lessons that they learned from him.
After the Q&A segment, HORI7ON proceeded to perform ‘SIX7EEN‘ and ‘LOVEY DOVEY‘ and showed appreciation by thanking the media for supporting the event.
They ended the event with the performance of the Korean version of ‘Sumayaw Sumunod’.
HORI7ON wishes to make an OPM hit a global hit and represent Filipino talent on the world stage. Let’s continue to support them by promoting and streaming ‘Sumayaw Sumunod‘ now!
