“Red Sleeve” artist Cho Hyeseung shares her art journey

A media forum with “The Red Sleeve” artist, Cho Hyeseung was held. Cho Hyeseung shared that she has been drawing ever since she was five years old. Cho Hyeseung is not picky with the genres she wants to work with, however she wants to always be able to accurately represent what she brings out.

“There are many ways where you can actually express your sincerity using pictures. And sometimes, other than reality, pictures actually show more sincerity than the reality.”

– Cho Hyeseung

Annyeong Oppa was able to ask Cho Hyeseung on whether she prefers webtoons or animations. She jokingly answers, “It’s a question of: ‘Do you prefer your mom or dad?’”. She continued,  saying that when it comes to showing emotions, animation is better. But the downside is that the process is longer. For webtoons or comics, you can encounter a lot of publisher works and interact with readers.

“Comics is like an old best friend that you grew up [with] in your hometown. While the animation is like the first love that you find after you are quite aged.”

– Cho Hyeseung describing the difference between animation and comics

Since webtoons require weekly updates, burnouts are a common experience for Cho Hyeseung. She shares how mindset is important in order to overcome these.

“One is to take ample rest. Second is to face a bigger problem.”

– Cho Hyeseung on how to overcome burnouts

She also shared how results are important in creating webtoons. Degrees are not necessary; Showing constant effort, having willingness, and knowing your priorities are what’s important.
