Meet the characters of the inspirational global box-office hit “YOLO,” coming in PH cinemas this April 17

YOLO” the global box-office hit is to be captured on film for Filipino cinemas, opening on April 17. This is an emotional roller coaster of a flick, which makes one laugh out loud and cry at least once with some inspiration in between.

Our protagonist is Leying, a young woman who has been living in seclusion for a long time as she sought peace within. It is when fate takes her through a series of unexpected turns that she decides to live differently and meets boxing instructor Haokun who happens to be one of the turning points in her life. And then, by means of boxing, she embarks on self-exploration with the hope of “winning just once” in this game called life.

Haokun came into Leying’s life almost randomly and he ended up being her optimistic but realistic boxing coach. Haokun’s pragmatic nature tempers Leying’s path to self-acceptance and empowerment.

Leying’s sister Ledan on the other hand is very different from Leying, who was never an introvert like her sister. Ledan has quite strong personality traits making it difficult for her to understand why her elder sibling would make such choices thereby straining their relationship.

Old Liang, the owner of the gym, may initially seem heartless but deep down inside he has good intentions. In the end, it is Leying’s bravery and resoluteness that wins him over.

Leying is one of the female employees who is always approached by the flirtatious and oily BBQ shop boss. His role contributes a little fun and tension to the story.

Doudou, Leying’s cousin, seems well-meaning and unassuming but she has pursued lofty professional goals; this highlights complications in familial relationships as well as individual aspirations.

Lili, Leying’s former best friend, had been hiding something that caused a wedge between them; it shows how personal troubles may affect friendship.

There was a time when her ex-boyfriend, Shanzi, turned his back against her when she needed someone most thus disrupting her peace and making things difficult for her too.

Ma Chunli, known for her unique fruit-type personality tests, this TV personality adds an interesting dimension to the film, offering insights into the characters’ personalities.
