Kim Myungsoo’s perfect transformation into a 21st century Confucian scholar in “Treat Me Carelessly”

KBS 2TV’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama “Treat Me Carelessly” will have its premiere on May 13th. It is adapted from a popular webtoon of the same title and tells a story about love and personal growth. Shin Yun-bok, which is played by Kim Myungsoo, embodies an MZ scholar in the twenty-first century.

Shin Yun-bok is full of contradictions. He is a stoic scholar who comes off as unapproachable yet he helps recover cultural properties from Seongsan Village in Korea. An untouched relic of the Joseon Dynasty, it looks just like that village. Having perfect manners and being guided by ethical principles makes him a true representative of Confucian scholars’ ideals of his time.

But beneath his traditional surface lies the soul of an MZ youth—futuristic and rebellious. However adventurous at heart he may be, Yun-bok struggles to confide in someone without keeping them at bay. This complexity adds texture to the narrative, providing audiences with intriguing insights into a man who wrestles with tradition versus modernity.

Kim Myungsoo shines as Shin Yun-bok. In photos, he looks serious and noble, his eyes bright and posture straight, showing Yun-bok’s smart side. Whether in old-time clothes or a school uniform, Myungsoo shows the scholar’s smooth and fine style, making the character even more interesting.

The show gives a new look at the old scholar role, making it a fresh story about love and life. “Treat Me Carelessly” is set to be a kind but intense love show, with Lee Yooyoung as Kim Hong-do adding to the story. As it goes on, we can’t wait to see the love grow between these two.
