AO EXCLUSIVE: Han Hyo Joo, Ju Ji Hoon, Lee Hee Joon, and Lee Mu Saeng talk about their roles and chemistry in Disney+’s “Blood Free”
Are you all ready for another jaw-dropping and gripping series?
Blood Free depicts the story of a former elite soldier who finds himself recruited to protect the CEO of a controversial lab-grown meat company that is under the threat of attack from different people.

Ahead of the premiere of the series, an exclusive press conference was held on April 8 with the presence of the star-studded cast members namely, Ju Ji Hoon, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Hee Joon, and Lee Moo Saeng alongside Director Park Cheol Hwan.
Director Park Cheol Hwan’s Viewpoint
According to Director Park Cheol Hwan, he feels honored to be part of this series, he shared that when he was preparing for the show, he did not know the final list of casts and when he heard that these star-studded actors were joining, he was taken aback a little bit. “We have a perfect script, we have veteran actors, what else could I ask for? I was fearless when I was on set because there was nothing that could go wrong.”
About creating the visuals, Director Park said that the technologies involved in cultured meat and AI exist in real life, so they did a lot of research into how those technologies are used. As for the Sci-fi elements, Director Park commented, “It is only a part of the drama because a lot of portions of the drama are based on reality. There’s going to be more realistic stories, I think if you focus on those elements, it’s going to be an even more enjoyable series.”
The main cast and their roles
Ju Ji Hun as Woo Chae Woon


Ju Ji Hoon plays the role of Woo Chae Woon, a former captain in South Korea’s elite Naval Intelligence command, Woo Chae Woon. He dedicates his life to tracking down those who are responsible for the terror attack, he will work as a personal bodyguard of Yun Ja Yu, the CEO of BF to uncover the truth behind that horrifying attack.
When asked about his action scenes, he shared that the 17 vs 1 action scene in the series was his idea, he said that because this drama is set in the near future, they focused on how it will look more realistic and more grounded. “The action scenes are just great so please stay tuned for the action sequence that I’ll be pulling off in Blood Free“.
When he was reading the script, Ji Hoon said that he is not very interested in a lot of social kind issues, but he thinks that there are a lot of certain issues that we need to think about, “We can provide through the show some fruitful thought for people”, he added. He also pointed out that writer Lee talks about very deep topics with very entertaining as well and she creates this masterpiece with those.
Han Hyo Joo as Yun Ja Yu


Han Hyo Joo transforms into a mysterious CEO of a controversial lab-grown meat company, BF Group named Yun Ja Yu. She is the target of widespread condemnation following her company’s disruptive effect on global agriculture.
In preparation for her role in this series, Hyo Joo shared that she looked up to a lot of references and videos to make sure that she hit the point for everything. “I usually don’t like to do many rehearsals to make sure that I look very realistic and grounded but this one, I practiced the lines so many times. I want to memorize every line to make sure the scene is perfect.” She focused on how she expresses Ja Yu’s feelings and her vocal tone as well.
Han Hyo Joo shared that when she first read the script, she thought that this series was so timely and this is the show that we need at this moment, it is such an intelligent script and subject material. “I remember that time when I first read the script and I’m so happy that it made my heart pound.”
Hyo Joo recently starred as Lee Mi Yeon in the popular series, Moving, she said that she’s happy to be collaborating with Disney+ once again and she hopes that Blood Free is as love as Moving was.
Lee Hee Joon as Seon Woo Jae


Seon Woo Jae who is the prime minister of Korea will play by actor Lee Hee Joon. His maternal grandfather serves as the president of Korea and according to Lee Jee Hoon, this is his first time portraying a character who has an impressive family background, he shared that because of his role Woo Jae, he could visit the luxurious places that he had never been to.
Ju Ji Hoon shared that Lee Hee Joon’s character is very energetic and while he was acting against him, he could tell that he has a natural flow inside of him and when they were going to a long take, their chemistry worked so well for them.
Lee Moo Saeng as On San


Lee Moo Saeng portrays the role of On San, Ja Yu’s friend of 20 years and one of the founding members of the BF Group. He is very cool-headed and rational and the one Ja Yu can rely on.
In the series, he’ll do a lot of Computer-Generated Imagery as well, he said in the beginning, it did feel a little awkward that he acted as if he sees things visually but with the help of the crew and staff who gave him a very detailed explanation about it so he feels very at ease and was able to get into it very quickly.
Lee Moo Saeng shared his chemistry with the other cast members and said that there are so many cool people on set, and mentioned his co-actors, Kim Sang Ho, Park Ji Yeon, Jeon Seok Ho, and Lee Seo who have their vibes and colors. “We had so much synergy on set, so it was very enjoyable to be on set and I hope that it shows through in this show.”, he added.

This is the first time Hyo Joo and Ji Hoon have collaborated. when Ji Hoon was asked about what it was like to be collaborating with Hyo Joo, he said that Hyo Joo is a very solid and very dense actress and provides very dense performances. “When I talk to her on set or when I’m working with her, I feel like she’s a solid person, so I can rely on her while collaborating with her.”
“He said that he relied on me but on set, I was the one who relied on him”, Hyo Joo shared. “As an actor, he has a great presence on set and he has the eyes of the producer so if something is going to go wrong on set, he would be vocal about it. so, as someone collaborating with him, He is such a good person that I can rely on” she added.
