Cherry Blossoms After Winter. Semantic Error. Winter Before Spring. To My Star. As these LGBTQ-themed comics have been taking over the Korean platform – Webtoon, it is a wonder if there are some stories that you might have been still missing out on.

Looking for a good read with a unique LGBTQ+++ (GL) romance story plot this pride month? Just in time! Careless Confidential (Cx) might be the webtoon you have been looking for. Let me share with you the reasons why you should add this Filipino webtoon story to your reading list this pride month now!

1. Not a Typical GL Story

“Careless x Confidential is a girls’ love story that follows the journey of Florence and Eugene, two women in their early thirties, as they confront personal struggles in their lives.”

Logihy, author of Careless x Confidential

Enough of cliche storylines and shallow character development plots of a forced storyline of women’s love story! From the pride of Logihy’s success with her first webtoon, Unintentional Game (UG), we can all guarantee that CxC brings another peculiar and must-read webtoon for all Yuri (GL) enthusiasts!

“Frequently, one of the protagonists meets an unfortunate end, or they are denied the chance to live happily ever after. There always seems to be an obstacle hindering their path to happiness, and I have grown weary of this type of representation,” Logihy said in regard to the ongoing struggle of audiences to find good depictions of two women in love.

2. Raise Mental Health Awareness

As entailed in the documentary, “Pili, Komik Pinas” (Choose, Filipino Comics), the author pursued a psychology degree, as to why her comics have evident advocacy of raising mental health awareness, where CxC is not an exception to those.

After successfully conveying perspectives on mental health issues with her first webtoon, UG, Logihy became even more unstoppable as she dared to dwell not only with a heart-wrenching dilemma of breaking up from a long-term relationship but also into a sensitive stigma regarding gambling addiction.

“Florence grapples with a broken heart after the end of an eight-year relationship, and strives to avoid succumbing to depression. On the other hand, Eugene battles with a gambling addiction. Who among us hasn’t experienced a broken heart? Who hasn’t exerted self-restraint in the face of temptations? … I am crafting this story precisely for individuals who resonate with these experiences.”

3. Highly Relatable Scenes

Besides raising awareness about mental health, Logihy also emphasized that CxC was also created to provide readers with relatable but well-researched content, especially regarding gambling. Despite the limited availability of resources related to gambling, Logihy took this setback as her “powerful motivator to assure individuals that they are not alone in their struggles to resist the allure of their desires,” where she even researched gambling and casino narratives by watching movies and interviewing gamblers on their venture towards triumphing over their addiction, both on a local and international scale.

5. Pinoy Touch as Always!

Don’t we all love seeing Filipino crafts paved locally and internationally? CxC is not missing out on Pinoy slang and humor that you’ll surely enjoy. Moreover, Logihy’s strong sense of patriotism doesn’t end with subtle Pinoy references in her stories, where she even chose to first publish Careless x Confidential on Penlab, a platform dedicated to Filipino-authored comics that aligns perfectly with her values, as per her exclusive interview with The Royal Polar Bear.

BONUS: Know Logihy!

Logihy, pronounced lo-ji-hai, comes from combining the words “logically hyper”. She used to be (and still is) an educator, and her students found her teaching style amusing. One student referred to her as “logically hyper,” because although she was quite hyper in her teaching, her lessons remained logical. The phrase stuck with her, and she later created her pen name “Logihy” by merging and abbreviating “logically hyper”.

Logihy is a resident of Imus, Cavite, and works as a comic illustrator and musician. She enjoys watching TV shows and movies, playing video games, and hanging out with friends over drinks when she isn’t drawing.

If you want to get on her good side, take her to a yakiniku restaurant.
