“Flower of Evil”: A Thriller Drama that’s Undoubtedly Addictive

I believe that all of us are naturally born detectives in our own way. May it be through solving mystery problems or puzzle questions — the unanswered cues always intrigue us.
At first I thought that Flower of Evil was just like any crime solving, psychological-thriller drama. I never thought that I will be in for a surprise rollercoaster ride.
If you haven’t watched the Flower of Evil yet, let me give you 6 reasons to change your mind and start watching it.
WARNING: Might contain spoiler but will try not to give away too much.
1. Lee Joon Gi
Yes, he is enough for you to start watching this drama. His superb acting is over the moon. A misunderstood man who got tired of proving his innocence and always ended up in trouble he did not even create in the first place. He plays the role of Baek Hee Sung/Do Hyun Su, a metal craftsman who is the perfect husband and father that everyone wishes to have.

2. Moon Chae Won
An innocent and loving woman who fell in love with a guy who doesn’t see the good in himself. She plays the role of the great detective, Cha Ji Won. She has a job that she dreams off ever since and a loving family that everyone admires.

3. The Story
The story seems simple but in reality, it is not. It is a perfect example of the saying, “Nothing is what it seems“. I love the way they show glimpses of the past at the beginning of every new episode, which will give you a better insight and understanding about the characters. And just when you thought you already know the answer, additional questions will surely arise.

Do Hyun Su hides under the name of Baek Hee Sung, a devoted husband and a father who married the passionate detective and loving wife, Cha Ji Won. Everything was perfect not until Baek Hee Sung’s ugly past surfaces and hunts them.

Cha Ji Won‘s goal is to find the truth and gives justice to the victims of the cases she handles. She was good at her job until her husband, Baek Hee Sung, becomes entangled with a case she was working on.

Both Ji Won and Hyun Su are on the race into finding out what really happened in the past. Will they be able to find the truth that no one knows or wants to believe?
4. Supporting Casts
There are a lot of supporting casts to mention, but here are some notable casts worth noting.
A. Baek Family – The mother and father of Baek Hee Sung or what we can call the acting parents. Played by Nam Gi Ae and Son Jong Hak. There are a lot of questions that surround them. Like what really happened to their real son? And I just find it facinating that they literally have “Skeletons hidden in the closet”. I am still waiting for the confirmations to the questions I have for them. Hoping to get some answers soon.

B. Choi Jae Sub – The detective who thinks the exact opposite of what detective Cha Ji Won thinks. Played by Choi Young Joon. He keeps the balance that helps their team resolve the cases that is on hand.

C. Kim Moo Jin – He is a known reporter played by Seo Hyun Woo. He has his own motives but at the same time, he was the only one that Hyun Su can trust.

5. The Perfect Music for the Perfect Drama
A drama is not complete without the perfect OST. From the intro up to the end, the background music is perfect. It can make your heart beat faster when the thrilling part of the scene shows. At the same time, it can break your heart as the character pours their heart out.
Here are some of the songs from the drama:
6. Benefit of the Doubt
Hee Sung or Hyun Su‘s character kinda reminds me of Wang So’s character in “Scarlet Heart: Ryeo”. The way that he was misunderstood and how no one really cared about finding out who he really is. I search about Hyun Su’s inability to describe or recognize emotions. I found out about
“Alexithymia, an inability to identify and describe emotions. People with alexithymia have difficulties recognizing and communicating their own emotions, and they also struggle to recognize and respond to emotions in others.” (link for source)
Because of this, Hyun Su was not given a chance to find a way to understand his inability to recognize emotions. Instead, people judge him and even thought that he was possed or that he was a criminal like his father. No one tried to help him or understand him. He became a total outcast making him thinks that he was really a monster like what everyone has been saying.
If you love crime solving thriller with a bit of love this one is for you. Every episode is filled with mind twisting puzzles, that will keep your mind alert and intrigued. The chemistry of Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won is undeniable. They will absolutely give you a suspenseful and heart wrenching ride as you find out the truth.
Seem like I’m gonna like it.. i love the lead actor here. He is actually my one of my idols. OMG! I’m pretty sure I’m gonna watch this drama.
It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that good either.
