Get to know Mario Maurer more!

Since our favorite boy next door is set to come back to the Philippines this June 28, 2020, for a fan meeting, why don’t we know more about him?

Here are 10 facts about Mario Maurer you might not know yet:

1. He is of Thai Chinese and German descent.

Mario Maurer is born on December 4, 1988, to a German father and a Thai Chinese mother. He cannot speak German but he understands a bit of Mandarin. Aside from being a native Thai speaker, he also speaks English.

Unfortunately, Mario lost his father due to a diabetes-related heart attack. Mario stated in an interview that he was close to his family.

2. He was named by his father.

His father, Roland Maurer, was a fan of Italian motorcycles. Thus, he was given the Italian name, “Mario”.

3. He started as a model.

When he was 16 years old, he was scouted at Siam Square and asked to try out modeling. He then worked on photo shoots, commercials, and music videos.

He was a model first before going into acting.

4. “The Love of Siam” is his first leading role.

In 2007, he made his feature film debut in “The Love of Siam”. He portrayed a gay man named Tong.

Even without a background in acting, Mario did justice with the role and he even won the “Best Actor” award at the “Starpics Thai Films Award” and received a lot of nominations too.

Also, this movie was a critically-acclaimed financial success. Not bad for his first film!

5. “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” is his breakthrough film.

He starred in so many films since his film debut such as “Friendship” and “4 Romance” but the movie “First Love” also called “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was a massive sleeper hit that gained him popularity not only in Thailand but all over Asia!

In this movie, he worked with Thai actress Baifern Pimchanok. 

The chemistry between Mario and Baifern was a success that they will reunite in a new movie titled “Laser Candy”!

6. He was the lead in a Filipino movie.

Due to the success of his movie “First Love”, many Filipinos loved him. He was so popular here in the Philippines that he even made a movie with Filipina actress Erich Gonzales.

“Suddenly It’s Magic” is a story about two star-crossed lovers: Marcus Hanson (Mario Maurer), a Thai superstar and Joey Hermosa (Erich Gonzales), a Filipina baker. The two met in the Philippines and fell in love.

Mario’s co-star in “First Love” Baifern Pimchanok even made an appearance in the movie!

“Suddenly It’s Magic” was also Mario’s first English speaking movie.

7. He was the lead in Thailand’s highest-grossing film of all time.

Mario was a pro in acting that he got so many offers. In 2013, he starred in the movie “Pee Mak”.

The story is about Mak (Mario Maurer) and his wife Nak (Davika Hoorne). It is based on Mae Nak Phra Khanong legend of Thai folklore.

The movie “Pee Mak” is currently the highest-grossing film of all time in Thailand since 2013.

8. He has millions of followers on Instagram.

At present, he has 7.3 million followers on Instagram! Way to go, Mario!

He uses his Instagram to promote his works such as commercials, endorsements, TV shows, and movies. He also uses this platform to share photos of himself, his family and friends.

9. He is an endorser of a Filipino clothing brand.

Mario endorses a lot of brands such as “The Pizza Company”, “Honda Jazz”, “Pepsi”, “Sony Ericcson”, and the Filipino clothing brand “Penshoppe”.

He became an official endorser in 2011 and also hit the runway at the “Philippine Fashion Week”.

Additionally, Mario collaborated with international artists for the brand as well!

Penshoppe: Mario Maurer and Baifern Pimchanok Meet and Greet!

Because of his endorsement with “Penshoppe”, he came to the Philippines twice! The first time was in 2011 when he was introduced as the newest brand endorser. The event was held at the PICC Plenary Hall. The second time was in 2014 at the Ayala Center Cebu together with Baifern Pimchanok.

Aside from “Penshoppe”, Mario also endorses “Head & Shoulders” together with Sandara Park.

10. He is fond of skateboarding, hip-hop, and cars.

Apparently, his love for skateboards is what got him a career in showbiz. Mario also loves driving cars.

Mario’s love for hip-hop is what he and his brother, Marco, share.

Marco Maurer is 5 years older than Mario and he is a hip-hop artist and actor as well.

Mario released a hip-hop album titled “PsyCho & Lil’Mario: Dem Crazy Boyz”, with his brother, on October 31, 2007. The two teamed up as a hip-hop duo called “PsyCho & Lil’Mario”.

Bonus fact: he was a voice actor for Game of Thrones.

Mario was the voice actor for Jon Snow’s character in the Thai-dubbed broadcast of the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones”.
