KID PHENOMENON releases ‘I’m still breathing’ for ‘Mission: Yozakura Family’ anime

J-pop group KID PHENOMENON has released the music video for “I’m still breathing,” the ending theme song for anime “Mission: Yozakura Family” Season 2 Part 2.

Composed exclusively for the series, the song merges a spirit of resilience with an underlying sense of quiet loneliness, capturing the determination of protagonist Taiyo Asano to protect those he cherishes. It resonates with the emotional core of the spy-comedy anime, which is based on Hitsuji Gondaira’s manga.

KID PHENOMENON said they are truly honored to have the opportunity to perform the ending theme song for “Mission: Yozakura Family.”

“’I’m still breathing’ is a song that reflects the determination of the protagonist, Taiyo Asano, who never gives up and continues to face challenges no matter the circumstances. This work reminded us of the important values that resonate in the real world, such as the feelings we have for our families and the love that drives us to protect those who are precious to us,” they said.

Released digitally on October 12, the seven-member group added that they “poured their hearts into singing the song” and hoped to contribute to “bringing this beloved story to life.”

Keisuke Nakashima, known for his work with Mrs. GREEN APPLE, Travis Japan, and LIL LEAGUE, directed the music video for “I’m still breathing.” The video captures the complexity of human emotions such as coexistence of hope and uncertainty, celebrating the many layers of being human.

Anime fans may know KID PHENOMENON from “Existence,” the “Rurouni Kenshin” (2023) ending theme that hit No. 4 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and topped Spotify’s viral chart for two weeks. Their anime credits also include “Black Flame,” the opening theme for Studio Deen’s “The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess.”

“I’m still breathing” comes after the group’s second album “KIDS00’s,” which reached No. 2 on Oricon’s Weekly Albums Chart.
