“Hear Me: Our Summer” is a story of young love between Yong Jun (Hong Kyung), a part-time delivery driver in his 20s, and Yeo Reum (Roh Yoon Seo), a devoted sister whose world revolves around supporting hearing-impaired Ga Eul (Kim Min Ju).
Yong Jun encounters Yeo Reum at a pool, where she helps Ga Eul train as a swimmer. Yong Jun instantly falls for Yeo Reum the moment he sees her. Although he may not have figured out what to do with his life, he is determined to follow his heart.
A remake of the 2009 Taiwanese film “Hear Me,” this 2024 adaptation captures the blossoming of love and self-discovery, told in Korean Sign Language (KSL). This distinct feature creates a tender atmosphere throughout the scenes.

Using sign language, the film invites viewers into its narration without the usual spoken dialogue. This is evident in Yong Jun’s sincere actions and how genuinely Yeo Reum responds—whether making food or spending time together. In these quiet moments, the presence, calmness, and senses we often overlook evoke more power than any grand declaration.

Hear My Language
The cast did an excellent job in showcasing emotions, mainly expressed through body language and facial expressions. A shift in the fingertips, brimming tears, ragged breath, shy glances…they carry the weight of a monologue. Yong Jun and Yeo Reum present a youthful flair that does not overplay sweetness, but sparks fly.
More than that, the relationship between Yeo Reum (Summer) and Ga Eul (Autumn) is portrayed with grounded and sisterly friction. Their parents are also supportive, adding to the heartfelt picture.

Hear My Visions
Every frame is a breath of fresh air. The warm, sun-drenched palette allows the audience to absorb the little details without being overstimulated. It diverts the eyes from the city’s hustle to the texture of a homemade lunch or the ripple of water in a pool.
Above all, the film depicts a valuable lesson: letting go of the burden we unconsciously place on our shoulders. As Yeo Reum’s mother said, “No one can live another person’s life for them.” In caring for others, we sometimes forget to care for ourselves. This, in turn, leads to shutting people down who truly care about you.
