karanoah’s ‘会いに Aini’ turns a nostalgic drive into a journey through memory

You can’t revisit the past. But if you drive an old road in the rain and pass your hometown, you come close for a fleeting moment.

On “会いに Aini,” Japanese rock trio karanoah turns a rainy drive through the town you grew up in into a memory trip.

The song, released on October 21, follows a drive to meet someone and figure out who that someone is. It could be someone from his memories or the person he was on that day. At the end waits who he is now, carrying the past, the future, doubts, and scars.

Member Yudai said the idea came from realizing how driving back to your hometown resurfaces forgotten memories.

“A car feels like a time machine. Of course you can’t actually go back, but it can feel like you really have. It feels like you can go back to that moment, just for a second. I wanted to make a song that takes all of it, the emotions and the memories, and moves forward,” said Yudai.

Small details build the song: heavy rain, fogged windows, a vending machine’s glow, a CD from his sister’s car. Alone they’re ordinary fragments. Together they briefly return him to that time. The memories stay tied to smells and scenery, and Yudai carries them, still searching, still moving forward.

For the band, it signals a return to straightforward rock and acts as the radio commercial song for Osaka station FM802’s “SATURDAY AMUSIC ISLANDS ~SOFT99 CAR LIFE WITH YOU~” since October 10. The same day, they played it live for the first time at “Maxell presents FM802 MINAMI WHEEL 2026,” on stage at OSAKA MUSE.

In January 2027, karanoah will embark on their “KARANOAH pre. Log Book Tour 2027 “会いに.”

The tour kicks off January 15 in Osaka, then moves to Fukuoka (January 23) and Hokkaido (February 11), and closes with a one-band show in Tokyo on February 20. Guest artists will join the Osaka, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido dates.
