Iconic Korean actors form solid lineup for hyper action-comedy film “The Roundup: Punishment”

The Roundup: Punishment” (2024) is now showing exclusively at SM Cinemas! It is the fourth installment of “The Roundup” series and the sequel to “The Roundup: No Way Out” (2023). Distributed by Black Cap Pictures, the film comes with specially priced tickets – 275 in Metro Manila and 230 in provinces.  

This brand new hyper-action-comedy film is set three years after the synthetic drug case roundup in Korea happened. It stars Don Lee or Ma Dong Seok as the beast cop Ma Seok Do, as he chases down drug-dealing criminals along with the Metro Investigations. When the distributor of the delivery app is suddenly found dead in another country, their team finds out that the case involves a large illegal online gambling business.

Korean actor Lee Dong Hwi, famous for his role in Reply 1988, plays the role of Chang Dong Cheol, an IT genius who is the CEO of QM Holdings. Meanwhile, the film features scenes in the Philippines, where an ex-special forces mercenary named Baek Chang Gi monopolizes Korea’s illegal online gambling business, conducting crimes like abduction, confinement, assault, and even murder.

The Roundup series is recognized for introducing fascinating new villains in each film. Some of these K-actors will be making their comeback to the series for its latest installment:

Actor Kim Moo Yul portrays Baek Chang-gi, the main villain whose character will be appearing for the first time in “The Roundup: Punishment.” Considered the most formidable villain throughout the Roundup series, Kim Moo Yul impresses with his perfect action, performance, and appearance.

Actor Park Ji Hwan comes back with his signature role, Jang I Su, which was first introduced in “The Outlaws” (2017). A well-known scene-stealer in Korean cinema, Jang I Su was re-introduced in “The Roundup” (2022) as Ma Seok Do’s unofficial partner in fighting crimes, giving charm and comedy to the series. Jang I Su is a beloved character in the series along with Ma Seok Do.

Along with the familiar Metro Investigations team, the new Cyber Investigations team will be joining them as they tackle a bigger scale of rounding up criminals in both the Philippines and Korea. Actress Lee Joo Bin (who appeared in “Queen of Tears”) portrays Han Ji Su, and actor Kim Shin Bi (who appeared in “Flex X Cop”) will play Gang Nam Su, adding refreshing energy to the film.
