AO EXCLUSIVE: Meet the cast and director of the upcoming drama “Flex x Cop”

On January 23, the cast and director of the upcoming drama “Flex X Cop” held their press conference with the media.

The cast, Ahn Bo Hyun, Park Ji Hyun, Kang Sang Joon, Kim Shin Bi, Jung Ga Hee, and director Kim Jae Hong meet with the press to talk about their upcoming drama which will start to air on January 26, 2024.

“Flex X Cop” follows the story of Jin Yi Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun), a third-generation member of a chaebol family. By using his wealth, connections, and intelligence, he tries to wipe out criminals. He then becomes a detective and joins the violent crimes team. There, he met Lee Gang Hyun (Park Ji Hyun), who is the team leader of the violent crimes team. Lee Gang Hyun is a veteran and experienced detective and she will be working with Jin Yi Soo as they try to solve crimes together.

Ahn Bo Hyun shared that he was nervous at first when he took the role. He added that Jin Yi Soo is a lovely character and upbeat and this role is different from his previous ones. He described Jin Yi Soo as someone who is “a little bit annoying but endearing”. Overall, he was happy to be a part of this show.

He also added that “Flex x Cop” is a career-defining role for him. He is aware that there are expectations from him and the show since the previous weekend’s dramas were good but he was happy to share that Director Kim Jae Hong was satisfied with him and he was able to deliver.

Ahn Bo Hyun shared that his looks and physique would play a big factor in his role. Since he plays a cop in the drama, he has to work out to get into shape. He also said that his hair uses a lot of bottles of hair sprays to stay in place especially when they were filming during the windy weather. If you notice in the drama poster, he has a bit of strand of hair styled in front which makes him look arrogant.

As for doing his action scenes, Ahn Bo Hyun added that the martial arts director knows him since they worked previously so it was easy to do those scenes. To add to that, Ahn Bo Hyun used to be a boxer so he pretty much knows how to move and do fight scenes.

Park Ji Hyun in playing Lee Gang Hyun

Park Ji Hyun shared that Lee Gang Hyun is very appealing. She is passionate about her work and a cop you can look up to. As for playing the role, Park Ji Hyun added that she only wore a bit of makeup. Realistically speaking, as a cop, she would be busy doing other things so she won’t have time to fix herself. Wearing less makeup helped her get into her character more.

For her role, Park Ji Hyun gained 7 kilos since she was a bit skinny. When she gained weight, it wasn’t as noticeable so it was okay. Since she is playing a cop, she needs to be strong and know how to fight. Although it was her first time, Park Ji Hyun trained at an action school so she could play her role well.

Kang Sang Joon in playing Park Joon Young

Kang Sang Joon plays the role of Park Joon Young, a cop in the violent crime unit.

In preparing for his role, he shared that he also gained 10-12 kilos for the drama. He jokingly shared that Ahn Bo Hyun’s figure is the standard since he needs to be able to hold him off.

Kim Shin Bi in playing Choi Kyeong Jin

Actor Kim Shin Bi plays the role of the Gen Z police officer named Choi Kyeong Jin.

He shared that before shooting the drama, he went jogging and gained more physical strength to get into his role.

His role is a charming cop so to perfectly play the role, he focused on his dynamics with other characters so they can get along.

Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun on working together again

Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun previously worked in the first and second seasons of the drama “Yumi’s Cells”.

Ahn Bo Hyun said that it was comfortable working with Park Ji Hyun again because, in “Yumi’s Cells”, they didn’t have that many scenes together. But for “Flex x Cop”, they got along so well and got closer which resulted in a good chemistry between their characters.

Since this drama is her first lead role, Park Ji Hyun was worried but when she found out that Ahn Bo Hyun would be her co-lead, she was grateful and relieved.

Director Kim Jae Hong on casting the actors

The director shared that the actors playing the characters are exactly how he imagined they would be. The actors are perfect for the roles and they give justice to the characters. It’s a perfect casting of talented actors.

The cast and director ended the press conference by inviting the viewers to watch their drama this upcoming weekend.

Ahn Bo Hyun said that this drama is a storytelling series. Park Ji Hyun added that this drama is something new and they will show unique investigating techniques.

The cast recommended having chicken and beer while watching their new drama.

“Flex x Cop” is coming exclusively to Disney+ this January 26, 2024!
