INFINITE’s Kim Sungkyu takes the stage for “Dear Evan Hansen”
The world of musical theater is set to welcome a familiar face to its stage as INFINITE’s Kim Sungkyu, prepares to take on the lead role in the acclaimed musical “Dear Evan Hansen.” The production, known for its poignant narrative surrounding loneliness and the quest for connection, has captivated audiences worldwide since its debut in 2015.

“Dear Evan Hansen” serves as a mirror reflecting the universal experience of loneliness prevalent in various aspects of society, be it at home, in schools, or within corporate settings. The musical revolves around Evan Hansen, a character navigating the challenges of an anxiety disorder, shedding light on the struggles faced by many in today’s world.
It sends a powerful message that, despite our perceived isolation, we are never truly alone. The narrative unfolds as characters with diverse wounds discover and comfort each other, highlighting the importance of communication and solidarity in the face of darkness.

Since its premiere in Washington, D.C., in 2015, “Dear Evan Hansen” has garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards. The musical took home six Tony Awards, including Best Picture and Best Play, at the 71st Tony Awards in 2017. It continued to shine with 48 nominations and 26 awards across prestigious ceremonies such as the 2018 Grammy Awards and the 2020 Lawrence Olivier Awards.
Kim Sungkyu, known for his musical endeavors such as “Shinheung Military Academy,” “Gwanghwamun Sonata,” “Excalibur,” “Kingy Boots,” and “Red Book,” is set to step into the shoes of Evan Hansen. The character, a timid loner who writes to himself daily and dreams of a brighter future, resonated deeply with Kim Sungkyu.

In a statement, he shared, “As soon as I read the script for the first time, I was deeply moved. I felt that Evan’s story could soon be the story of all of us living in modern society, and that was attractive.”
The Asian premiere of “Dear Evan Hansen,” featuring Kim Sungkyu along with Park Kang-hyun and Lim Gyu-hyung in the lead role, is scheduled to grace the Chungmu Art Center Grand Theater from March 28 to June 23.
As fans eagerly await this new chapter in Sungkyu’s career, the musical promises to deliver a powerful and emotional experience, resonating with audiences on a profound level.
