“Actor Yook is back!”
That is the current chant of Yook Sungjae’s fans, who have been patiently anticipating his latest drama, Golden Spoon (original title: 금수저), for quite some time now. The confirmation of the drama news first came out a few weeks after his military discharge in November 2021. The wait has been long, but we are now just a few weeks away from the premiere!

Yook Sungjae is the youngest member of the idol group BTOB (비투비), the 10-year old idol group behind the hits “Missing You”, “Only One For Me”, and “Beautiful Pain”. Sungjae is one of the all-around idols who can sing well, entertain well in variety shows, and who can act well. Just look at any “best idol-actors” lists, and he will surely be part of it. He was well-loved as Gong Taekwang in “Who Are You: School 2015” and made an impact as Yoo Deokhwa alongside popular sunbaenims in “Goblin”. The Golden Spoon trailers give a glimpse of his acting prowess.
Golden Spoon is about a student from a poor family, who fatefully was given a chance to swap fates with a friend from a very wealthy family. It is based on a webtoon with the same name. The highly anticipated drama is headed by PD Song Hyun Wook (The King’s Affection, Another Miss Oh), and written by Kim Eun Hee and Yoon Eun Kyung (Ghost Doctor, Winter Sonata). The cast includes Jung Chaeyeon, Lee Jongwon, and Yeonwoo.

Even before any drama confirmation news came out, many fans of the webtoon said that Sungjae would be perfect as Lee Seung Cheon, the main lead who tries to turn his life around with a mysterious golden spoon.
Golden Spoon will air on MBC every Friday-Saturday and will premiere on September 23.
