“I always believe those who share the ties of blood aren’t necessarily a family. But for those who cherish and love each other, they definitely are.” – Li Jianjian
Looking for a heart-warming and slice-of-life series? ‘Go Ahead’ is just right for you, bes.
A story of love, pain, family, friendship, dreams, and growing up, this 2020 Chinese drama is a must add to your watch list.
First, let me share with you what made me watch the series. So, as I was taking a break from all those kilig dramas, I saw this clip on Tiktok. The said clip shows a young boy who was about to be abandoned by his mother, and a little girl who wants to have him as her brother.

Seeing them, I was like, how can a one-minute video made me cry in an instant? I then searched for the drama name, which led me to finish all the 40 episodes.
Now, allow me to give you four reasons why you should also watch this tear-jerking masterpiece.
The Plot

‘Go Ahead’ tells the story of three friends from broken families who became each other’s home. Three non-blood-related kids regard each other as family, hoping for the love they couldn’t receive at home. Eldest brother Ling Xiao, second brother He Ziqiu, and youngest sister Li Jianjian grew up together sharing the joys and sorrows of life while supporting each other. However, due to unwanted events, Ling Xiao and Ziqiu return to their birth families after graduating from high school.
The three reunites again after nine years, but things are not the same as it used to be as the heartaches from their past remain a persistent shadow. As they try to overcome their personal problems and improve themselves, will they be able to go back to each other?
The Best Cast

I think it’s safe to say that no one else would be fit to play the role of Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and Ziqiu aside from Tan Songyun, Song Weilong, and Steven Zhang respectively. The child stars who acted as their young counterparts also made a remarkable contributions to the drama. Even the side characters blended with them accordingly.
Co-starring the three main leads are Tu Songyan, Zhang Xilin, Sun Yi, He Ruixian, An Ge, Luna Yuan, Yang Tongshu, and Amber Song among others.
Amazing OSTs
A series with a good cry requires amazing OSTs. And ‘Go Ahead’ will not disappoint you. The heavy scenes from the drama will not be completed without these OSTs. And bes, when I say ‘a series with a good cry’, kulang ang tissue tissue lang! ^^
All OSTs from the drama were written by the Chinese singer-songwriter Sa Ji. Among my faves are ‘Rain’ by Shen Yicheng, and its English version ‘If Rain’ sang by Sa Ji herself.
Each Character Has Their Own Relatable Story
What added to the greatness of the drama is the side characters. There will be a time that you will find yourself in their situations. The story of Dad Li and Dad Ling, and how they brought up a happy family while being the father and mother at the same time.

In other ways, Jianjian’s friends, Tang Can and Qi Mingyue will show us how difficult adult life can be. With the high expectations and so much pressure from their family, we will somehow relate to them, as they struggle but never give up to fight for their dreams.
