K-pop icon BTS appointed as “Special Envoy for Future Generations and Culture”

On September 14, 2021, the group do the courtesy call with South Korea’s President, Moon Jae-in, and appointed them as “Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture”.

“In many ways, I am very grateful that the status of K-pop and K-culture has been raised to the highest level, which greatly elevate the dignity of the Republic of Korea.”

“Our generation learned English by listening to pop songs, but these days, people around the world are learning Korean to understand BTS’ songs.”

Furthermore, as part of their first official duties as “special envoys”, BTS will be accompanying the President in his attendance at the 76th UN General Assembly in New York from September 19 to 23.

In addition, President Moon presented each member of the group with diplomatic passports and fountain pens as a special present after the ceremony.

Finally, BTS’ leader Kim Nam Joon concluded the meeting with a message on behalf of the group.

“It is a great honor to be able to do something with this title as a nation and as an individual, as a special presidential envoy for future generations and culture. I was always thinking about whether I could give a lot at the same time, but I am honored that the President has given me such a great opportunity, and I am going to work hard as a special envoy.”
