There are birthdays… and then there are idol birthdays, the kind that turn cafes into fan sanctuaries and strangers into instant besties. Here’s how fans celebrate their idols through CSEs (cup sleeve events), from someone who shows up to as many as she possibly can.

If you walk past a cafe on a random Saturday and see balloons in one specific color, banners with a familiar face, and fans lining up in coordinated outfits… congratulations. You’ve found a CSE.

CSE Theme

Every CSE revolves around the idol’s identity, their representative color, inside jokes, favorite foods, and iconic eras.

You’ll see custom banners filled with heartfelt birthday messages, photo zones covered in posters and life-sized standees, balloon arches carefully arranged in official fandom colors, and a dedicated table showcasing fan projects and handwritten letters, all coming together to transform an ordinary cafe into a mini birthday exhibit made purely out of love.

The Cup Sleeves (Of Course)

The star of the show? The actual cup sleeves. Designed by fans, printed with the idol’s birthday message, sometimes with QR codes linking to playlists or fan videos. And yes, some of us keep them forever. No shame.

Fan Support & Freebies

One thing about CSE culture… fans spoil each other. You’ll find photocards tucked into small envelopes, cute stickers designed by fellow fans, mini banners perfect for future concerts, printed slogans, and even handmade keychains. Some organizers even include fan kits with curated merch packs.

Raffles and Games

It’s never just coffee and pictures. There are trivia games, raffle draws, and sometimes donation drives in the idol’s name, turning the celebration into something meaningful.

For regular CSE-goers like me, it’s not just about the idol. It’s about finally meeting mutuals you’ve only interacted with through likes and replies, finding people who fully understand your late-night bias rants without judgment, and feeling genuinely safe in a shared space where everyone speaks the same fandom language.

You walk in alone sometimes. You leave with new friends, new memories, and at least five new photocards.

And if there’s another CSE next weekend? You already know I’ll be there.
