K-Film Review: “I, The Executioner”, An action-packed film you can’t miss!

After 9 years, the veteran detective, Seo Do Cheol, is back to give us more intense and adrenaline-pumping action that will surely keep us on the edge of our seats in I, The Executioner.

I, the Executioner is a sequel to the 2015 box office hit Veteran that depicts the journey of Detective Seo Do Cheol and his Major Crime Investigation Division in their relentless pursuit of criminals day and night, often at the expense of their personal lives.

Do Cheol’s team track down the serial killer who has plunged the nation into turmoil, as they delve into the investigation, rookie officer Park Sun Woo joins the team leading to unexpected twists in the case’s trajectory.

From Veteran to here, he never disappoints. The way he delivers funny punchlines is just so natural to him, making the film so much fun to watch and it balances the intense feeling while watching it. His role as Detective Seo Do Cheol highlights the struggles of his work and his personal life which everyone can somehow relate to.

Rookie detective, Park Sun Woo, played by Jung Hae In, joins the team under Seo Do Cheol’s watchful eye. Jung Hae In’s role is such a compelling character who intensifies the tension in the film. Jung Hae In effortlessly made everyone swoon with his jaw-dropping performance in every action sequence. His extensive action training while preparing for his role from basic fitness exercises to martial arts and parkour is all so worth it!

Jung Hae In’s versatility in acting also translates through the big screen and flawlessly portrayed his role of Park Sun Woo who I describe as a wolf in sheep’s clothing since he looks so innocent outside but inwardly is very evil.

Moreover, the Major Crime Investigation Division team in Veteran reunited and delivered breathtaking action and overflowing chemistry once again, featuring their solid teamwork in catching criminals.

My Thoughts

This film is a must-watch! It tackles various issues in our society. Director Ryoo Seung Wan did a great job in helming such timely cinematic themes that features realistic stories.

What I like the most about this film is it shows the struggle of Detective Seo Do Cheol to maintain the peace and order of his country and his responsibility of being a husband and a father to his son. Many will realize that this job is not a joke. It requires courage and passion to get into this and we appreciate those people who are in this kind of work.

In addition, the film also tackles how we are living in the modern world where people are so dependent on the things they see online which easily influences how they think. This film is such an eye-opener that we should be responsible in everything we post online and we should think before we click.
