MOVING: A Hit Fantasy-Thriller Korean Drama of 2023 to Watch

Moving is a South Korean drama series that became the talk of the town due to its high-profile ensemble. The names of Ryu Seung-ryong, Zo In-sung, Han Hyo-joo, Kim Sung-kyun, and Cha Tae-hyun are enough to make viewers anticipate this top-billed series. Then the youngsters Lee Jung-ha, Go Youn-jung, and Kim Do-hoon join the spice to make this immaculate masterpiece.

About Moving

Based on the webtoon of the same title, Moving is a fantasy, thriller, and drama series that follows three high schoolers and their parents with unique superpowers. Their parents were once top-skilled agents from the National Intelligence Service who now try to avoid getting entangled in the said agency.

If you haven’t watched this series yet, here are some reasons you shouldn’t miss it!

The webtoon author wrote the drama script himself.

Kang Full wrote the script for this series! Even though he’s written the webtoon, he tried to add some changes to the series to make each story unique. A notable one would be the addition of Cha Tae-hyun’s role as Jeon Gye-do, a bus driver with an electric superpower.

Its storyline will keep you wanting more!

Unlike other fantasy-themed dramas, Moving changes the game due to its characters raising their respective families. Even though it’ll give you amazing action scenes, the series’ buildup for each family doesn’t disappoint! Plus, its amazing cinematography and effects make you feel like you are watching them from an alternate universe.

I would like to mention here that you will love Appa Jang Ju-won (portrayed by Seung-ryong) and his powers, which you should watch out for!

Unique series with amazing actors as parents.

Okay, I never thought that Han Hyo-joo and Zo In-sung would play as parents to a high-schooler Bong-seok! Sure, Ryu Seung-ryeong and Kim Sung-kyun have been on our list of favorite appas, adding the two stars makes the combination blend well!

To add, their superpowers are something no one should underestimate too. Eomma Lee Mi-hyun (Han Hyo-joo) gives her all to pour her love for dear Bong-seok, but you shouldn’t mess with her!

Promising young stars as children.

Honestly, apart from the parents, I only knew Go Young-jung in the lineup. Lee Jung-ha and Kim Do-hoon stole my heart throughout the series. (Lol!) However, these three didn’t disappoint in portraying their respective roles as they inherited their parent’s superpowers.

Even as high school students, they displayed the harsh reality that “special children” like them experienced. Especially whenever Bong-seok (portrayed by Jung-ha) is elated, he tries to suppress his feelings! Otherwise, he’ll float and his secret will be revealed!

A sneak peek of an alternate reality where people are with superpowers.

Although the events from this series may seem far from reality, it was an amazing preview of how the world might change should superpowers become a coveted skill in every country. The tension between the two Koreas was also hinted at in this series and it boils down to how every agent is exploited with a mindset that their respective “powers” are important to keep their countries safe.

This can be related to real life, removing the superpowers in the picture, that every country has its “own key agents” who are experts in various fields. Be it in terms of business, entertainment, or leadership to help their nations stay afloat and progress. It’s safe to say that the drama Moving opens one’s mind to an overview of the reality when businesses and politics are combined.

A drama about family, friends, and growing up.

Truth be told, the series lives up to its name Moving. Not only because the main families move around, but some of these episodes leave a moving impression on their audiences. An example would be when the children came to rescue their parents during the final episode.

It was a full-circle moment for all the parents in this series. Their respective parenting styles, situations, and relationships with each other have helped them hone their children to be their version of superheroes. It’s quite a unique way to end the series!
