AO EXCLUSIVE: Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won, and more star-studded cast of “Queen of Tears” share their thoughts on taking this series
The highly anticipated romance of the century is finally coming on our small screens!
Queen of Tears is a story about the married couple, Hong Hae In and Baek Hyun Woo, who go through a dizzying crisis but their love blooms again miraculously.

Ahead of the premiere of the most-anticipated series, an exclusive global virtual press conference was held on March 7 with the presence of the star-studded cast including Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won, Park Sung Hoon, Kwak Dong Yeon, and Lee Joo Been alongside Directors Jang Young Woo and Kim Hee Won.
The star-studded cast and the reason why they chose this series


When asked about the reason why they chose the series, Kim Soo Hyun, the king of rom-com, was the first one who took the floor and responded, “I am returning after 3 years. Thank you so much for waiting such a long time”. He said that there are a lot of great things about Queen of Tears and Baek Hyun Woo’s charm. He wanted to try a role as a husband and look forward to the emotional ride.
Kim Ji Won who portrays the role of Hong Hae In, a third-generation chaebol of Queens Group, said that she is grateful to join this wonderful cast, directors, and staff. She shared that by reading the script, she was curious to learn the story of the characters in the series, and she wanted to know how this story would turn out. “I am sure that the viewers will feel the curiosity and emotions I experienced,” she said.
Park Sung Hoon who will transform into a M&A expert named Yoon Eun Seong, answered that he couldn’t keep his eyes off of the script and there were some twists on the script. He said that the directors are well-known in the industry, and they are great as people and directors. He shared that he was added in as one of the last characters, “There was no reason not to join!”
Kwak Dong Yeon plays the role of Hong Soo Cheol, Hong Hae In’s younger brother. Dong Yeon said that He loves the writing of the series. The characters are all so charming and he loves how these characters interact with each other, the conflicts, and the dramas that they create in the series. He expressed how happy he is working with the people he worked with before.
“I was excited after reading the script,” Lee Joo Been said. The characters and the story were interesting for her and revealed that she is a big fan of her co-stars and the directors so working with them is such a privilege to join these great people. She plays the role of Cheon Da Hye, the beautiful wife of Soo Cheol.
The casting process
With regard to the casting process, Director Jang Young Woo complimented writer Park Ji Eun and said that she did a great job in describing the characters. Along with director Hee Won, they visited each actor personally to ask them and they were all happy to join them.
In addition, Director Kim Hee Won stated that when they started preparing the show, they wrote their top priorities after the casting was over. She realized for the first time in her career that all the actors were her first choice, so that was remarkable. She revealed that there are a lot of surprise cameos even though those actors are super busy so she’s very grateful that they made time for them.
The lovely couples


When talking about the chemistry of the couples in the series, Kim Soo Hyun said that his chemistry with Kim Ji Won is such a considerate chemistry. Ji Won added that they have a lot of tempers, but they have healthy anger, “but we healthily express ourselves”, Soo Hyun explained. There is a lot of tension and love-hate with this couple so the viewers should look forward to it.
From the director’s perspective, director Jang Young Woo expressed how he was pleasantly surprised by Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun’s chemistry since this is their first time working together as a married couple.
On the other hand, Joo Been said that the charm of Soo Cheol and Da Hye is that they are married but they are a lovey-dovey as a honeymoon couple. “There is no anger between us although we get angry. If we look at each other’s faces we become happy.” Dong Yeon added.
Message to the viewers

The virtual global press conference wrapped up with the messages from the cast and directors.
Kim Soo Hyun said that he had so much fun during the event. He hopes that everyone will receive great energy through their drama.
“I hope the happiness and emotions will be shared. We really put a lot of effort into filming the show. So please give us a lot of love and support”, Kim Ji Won said.
“Great writing, great directing, and wonderful acting! We really worked hard with a great writer and directors so please give a lot of support,” Sung Hoon’s last message.
Kwak Dong Yeon said that they had great and fun energy that melted into the show, there were a lot of emotions and thought-provoking moments. “See you on Netflix on March 9th,” he concluded.
Lee Joo Been stated that this series shows not only romantic love but also family love. It is like a gift set prepared for everyone so they will not be disappointed.
Director Kim Hee Won shared that they tried their best to make this so the viewers should look forward to this.
Lastly, Jang Young Woo said that he was happy working with this series so he hopes that the viewers feel the same way.
This series is filled with romance, laughter, and warmth. So, let’s look forward to it.
