Last December 28, the president of the Republic of South Korea addressed President Rodrigo Duterte and the Filipino people in his tweet using the official Twitter account of The Blue House.
For the past year, we have strived for peace.
We were able to draw great strength because you were together with us all the way.

He said that we have strived for peace for the past year and that they were able to draw great strength because we were together with them all the way.
Bilateral relations between Philippines and South Korea started on 3 March 1949 when the Philippines became the fifth country to recognize the Republic of Korea, which was inaugurated on 15 August 1948. The friendship was cemented by the Philippine deployment of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK) during the Korean War in the 1950s to help South Korea defend itself from the invasion of the North.
