Why ‘Shaving’ is a must-watch South Korean horror thriller film

The upcoming psychological horror thriller “Shaving” is definitely a must-watch film this October.
The film follows Suyeon (played by Roh Jeong Eui), a novelist struggling to finish her latest work. She has been trying to rebuild her life while carrying past trauma.
During the holidays, her boyfriend Shinji (played by Kasamatsu Sho) comes to visit her in a secluded countryside house, and the two spend their quiet time together. But one moment, Shinji accidentally cuts his face with an old razor while shaving. A mysterious change—his personality and appearance undergo a terrifying transformation.
As Shinji’s anger erupts, Suyeon’s traumatic past and fears she has barely suppressed all come to the surface at once. Mina (played by ITZY Ryujin) strives to protect her close friend Suyeon, becoming entangled in the disturbing situation herself.
“Shaving” has been selected as one of the films for the main competition at the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which will run from October 6 to 15 at the Busan Cinema Center.
“Competition section features 14 films from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia, showcasing the current landscape of Asian cinema and exploring new possibilities of cinematic language,” according to the BIFF website.
What makes “Shaving” compelling is that the film explores the “complex psychology of its characters in an isolated claustrophobic setting,” the BIFF said. It is expected that the secluded location and the characters’ increasing emotional instability will fuel the film’s tense psychological atmosphere and heighten their fears and unresolved trauma.
One of the most attention-grabbing casting choices, particularly for Midzys, is that it marks Ryujin’s first feature film as an actress, expanding her acting portfolio.
Byun Yohan, known for the K-drama “Mr. Sunshine” and the film “The Book of Fish, Hansan: Rising Dragon,” will also make his presence in the film.
Ahead of its debut, the movie premiere for October 8 and 9 of “Shaving” has sold out.
With a runtime of 93 minutes, “Shaving” is directed by Kim Jung-hoon and produced by Star Platinum.
