A-Reel Asia: Stories from the Heart of the East is a new platform dedicated to Asian cinema, featuring a lineup of heartwarming dramas, thrilling blockbusters, and critically acclaimed films including from countries like Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, and China. This groundbreaking initiative will bring these films to local audiences and provide them with alternative content for an all-new cinema experience and cultural appreciation.
As a way to celebrate world-class films while promoting Asian culture, Ayala Malls Cinemas kicks off its new platform with the Indonesian film, Traditional Kamasutra Teacher by director Hanung Bramantyo.

Traditional Kamasutra Teacher is a film about Ratri (played by Raihaanun), a young woman raised by a respected gowok, a young woman who teaches young men about household and sexuality before marriage. After a betrayal by her lover, Ratri seeks revenge through his son years later.
Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, the film is visually stunning and culturally rich, exploring Javanese traditions, gender roles, and emotional depth. Along with Raihaanun, the film also stars Lola Amaria, Alika Jantinia, Devano Danendra, and Reza Rahadian.
Traditional Kamasutra Teacher: A Gateway to Asian Cinema and Culture
Not only will Traditional Kamasutra Teacher launch A-Reel Asia, but it will also introduce a sub-category titled “Indo Jewels,” which celebrates the rich narratives and cinematic artistry of Indonesia.
Known in Indonesia as Gowok: Javanese Kamasutra, it was nominated at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam, selected for the 24th New York Asian Film Festival. This visually breathtaking film showcases stunning cinematography and authentic native costumes while delivering a sweeping, genre-spanning tale of drama, history, romance, and thrills.
