Known as the queens of synchronization, GFRIEND has become a beloved girl group for fans across generations. Consisting of members Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji, GFRIEND has managed to impress audiences with their distinct music, beautiful vocals, and strong dance skills.

As GFRIEND celebrates their 10th anniversary this year, let us look back on 10 momentous events that are surely unforgettable for every BUDDY.

1. Debut

GFRIEND made their debut with the EP “Season of Glass” on January 15, 2015. This became the start of the momentum for their career despite coming from a small company at the time.

2. First reality show

Just months after their debut, GFRIEND starred in the idol reality show entitled “GFRIEND! Please Take Care of the Puppies,” aired on Sky Petpark. In this show, the group was divided into the unnie (older) team and dongsaeng (younger) team as they became pet-sitters. This showed GFRIEND’s sweet side and it was really adorable to see them with cute dogs! The show was broadcast from April 14 to June 30, 2015.

3. Me Gustas Tu becoming viral

GFRIEND made their first comeback with the 2nd EP “Flower Bud” on July 23, 2015. The title track “Me Gustas Tu” received great responses, and it also became viral among international audiences due to an unexpected incident!

While promoting the song at an event in Gangwon Province, the GFRIEND members unfortunately slipped while on the stage. Still, they continued their performance and was met with supportive cheers from the crowd. A video of this received millions of views, causing the song to climb back up on the charts afterward.

4. First major award

GFRIEND got their first-ever major award during their debut year, having won as the “Best New Female Artist” at the Melon Music Awards on November 7, 2015. A truly amazing feat for the rookie girl group then!

5. First music show win

GFRIEND received their first-ever music show win on February 2, 2016, at The Show for “Rough,” the title track of their 3rd EP “Snowflake.” At the time, it was also Yerin’s first week as a regular MC for The Show, making their win extra special for her and the members.

6. Receiving a PAK

One of GFRIEND’s best achievements was getting a PAK (“Perfect All-Kill)” with their song “Rough” on various online music charts when it was released. With this, GFRIEND became the first 3rd generation K-pop group to achieve a PAK!

7. First full-length album

18 months after their debut, GFRIEND released their first studio album “LOL” on July 11, 2016. The album was made available in two versions: “Laughing Out Loud” and “Lots of Love”. It contained 12 tracks, including an intro for the album and an instrumental version of “Navillera,” the title song.

8. First concert

GFRIEND held their first concert “Season of GFRIEND” in Seoul, Korea on January 6, 2018. With the concert being sold out, it really showed how loved the group was. This also marked the start of their Asia tour, in which Manila was also a part of!

9. Japanese debut

GFRIEND made their debut in Japan with the compilation album “Kyō Kara Watashitachi wa: GFriend 1st Best,” released on May 23, 2018. The Japanese version of “Me Gustas Tu” served as the album’s title track.

Over a year later, GFRIEND released their first Japanese single “Memoria / Yoru (Time for the Moon Night)”.

10. Reunion

This year, GFRIEND has reunited as a full group to commemorate their 10th debut anniversary, marking their first group activity in four years after facing an abrupt disbandment in May 2021, following the expiration of their contract with Source Music.

Really an unexpected yet pleasant surprise for every BUDDY, as the group did not only release a special album, but will also be having a three-day concert! GFRIEND’s concert “Season of Memories,” is set to be held in Seoul from January 17 to 19. The group is also reported to have scheduled tours in four cities across Asia.
