Dance along to IVE’s recent EP, “IVE SWITCH”
On April 29, IVE released their second extended play (EP), “IVE SWITCH”. The title tracks are “HEYA” and “Accendio”, with the former’s music video already released.
Powerful title tracks
In a musical aspect, the entire EP has a fun party vibe to it. IVE once again released music that is not like their previous releases, but still very uniquely IVE. Their title track, “HEYA”, has a repetitive chant of “Heya! Heya! Heya!” in the chorus making it catchy and memorable. Visual-wise, it follows a cool concept, with the motif of traditional paintings. The beginning of the music video is reminiscent of those compact playset toys.
“Accendio” is the second song on the tracklist and one of the songs I have been looking forward to. It did not disappoint! Accendio, derived from accendium, means lighting something on fire. The song perfectly encapsulates love that burns so well.
Feel the EP’s take on the process of blossoming relationships to inevitable endings
The next two tracks are cool, in the sense that the imagery of ice is present in both. Sonically it gives off the confident ice-cold vibe. Jang Wonyoung wrote the next track, “Blue Heart”. It talks about ‘freezing’ your heart, as a way to protect yourself. It has an addictive chorus, the kind that makes you want to sing along. “Ice Queen” is a good follow-up, talking about being cautious in engaging with someone because of their own ‘ice-cold’ reputation.
“WOW” is the second to the last, and gives off carefree vibes. It talks about being drawn by someone who is the complete opposite of you.
The EP ends with “RESET”, a good resting point as it follows a more relaxed beat compared to the previous tracks. It is the perfect closer too, as it talks about ending a relationship without looking back. However, for DIVEs, this EP will surely be replayed over and over again!
