Super Junior once again showed the world that their position as the “Legend of Kpop” and “Kings of Hallyu” remains unchanged.
With everything shifting to online channels and transactions one by one, SM Entertainment decided to change the KPOP concert landscape and launch SM Beyond Live.
SM Beyond Live is a new concert concept launched last April 2020 by SM Entertainment in partnership with Naver VLive. The online show boasts of live performances supported with cutting-edge AR technology and effects.
On their Beyond the Live show last May 31 at 3PM KST on Naver Vlive+, Super Junior was able to record 123,000 paid live viewers. They were able to receive a total of 2.85 Billion VLive hearts and sweeping the worldwide Twitter trends with their performance hashtag #SUPERJUNIOR_BeyondLIVE.
Despite being in the limits of device screens, Super Junior still managed to deliver the quality and level of performance that fans usually get during actual Supershows.
With their classic songs such as Sorry Sorry, Superman, Sexy Free and Single, Mamacita, Super Clap and Shining Star; the show never felt any less than a physical concert. It was also a bonus that fans got to preview the comeback song of Super Junior’s subunit, SJ K.R.Y.
In the middle of the show, a ‘Giant AR Siwon’ even appeared to cheer the fans with his “No Challenge, No Change” slogan.
There was also a Q & A portion where 5 lucky ELFs had the opportunity to personally ask a question to Super Junior. But everyone was surprised when TVXQ’s Max Changmin turned out to be the 5th lucky ELF and making a special appearance on the show.
In the these challenging times during a pandemic, SM was able to change the game by launching this online concert show that still allowed fans to enjoy the world class level of performance that Super Junior always deliver in the comfort and safety of their own homes.
