As a KDrama fan, one would be lying if they say that they don’t know Kim Soo Hyun. Since his television debut in 2007, he managed to walk his way up the Top Hallyu Actor ranks with his outstanding acting talent.
In 2017 by the time of his mandatory military enlistment, Kim Soo Hyun is already a household name not only in Korea but in all of Asia. The good news is, the waiting period for him already ended last July 1, 2019. He is now back in the scene and is gearing himself for a new project in 2020. Fans was so hyped when he finally kicked off his grand return by having a cameo appearance at the last scene of recent drama “Hotel del Luna”.
Unlike other veteran actors, Soo Hyun’s filmography list is still quite short. However, it can’t be denied that each one on it enjoyed a great amount of success. To make you remember all the things that you love about Kim Soo Hyun, here are some of his works that will surely make you love him more. 1. Jungle Fish (2008)
This one-episode KBS Drama Special is one of Soo Hyun’s early works. It’s a teenage drama on a typical high school student setting with problems such as exams and bullying. Here, Soo Hyun is a quiet student who loves to play “detective” with his best friend. The story will revolve around them trying to solve their school’s case of exam questions theft. 2. Father’s House (2009)
Another one of his early short dramas, Kim Soo Hyun here plays as Choi Min Soo’s son. The two episodes will show how the bond between father and son strengthen after surviving a near-death experience.
3. Will it snow for Christmas? (2009)
One of Soo Hyun’s memorable roles where he played as the main character’s (Go Soo) teenage version. In this melodrama, he had many scenes with Nam Ji Hyun (younger version of Han Ye Seul) and his brother in the drama played by Song Joong Ki.
4. Dream High (2011)
Considered as Kim Soo Hyun’s breakthrough to international fame, this drama made him standout as the only actor among the idol – actors main casts that includes IU, Miss A’s Suzy, T-ara’s Eun Jung, 2PM’s Taecyeon and Woo Young. It was also proven in this drama that he was multi-talented as he can also sing and dance well.
5. The Thieves (2012)
This movie enjoys its position as the 8th highest-grossing film in Korean film history with over 12.9 million ticket sales. Its no wonder as the film has one of the greatest cast ensembles for a heist film that includes: Lee Jung Jae, Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Hae Sook, Ju Jin Mo, Kim Yoon Seok, Kim Hye Soo, Simon Yam, Derek Tsang, Oh Dal Su, Angelica Lee and Kim Soo Hyun. This is also the first work between Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun before the drama My Love from the Stars.
6. Moon Embracing the Sun (2012)
This is the drama that gave Soo Hyun his crown as one of the Top actors in Korea. It achieved a “National Drama” status after achieving a peak viewership rating of 42%, a feat considered to be very hard especially for sageuk dramas. The talk on this drama lingered for awhile and helped the other casts with the fame that it brought as well as the awards and accolades that they achieved.
7. Secretly Greatly (2013)
For those who haven’t watched this film yet, better search for an available copy and watch it now. Hands-down this film is a masterpiece. In this film Soo Hyun stars along Park Ki Woong and Lee Hyun Woo as North Korean spies who infiltrated South Korea and tries to blend in a small town while they wait for their official orders. The film will give you a full spectrum of emotions together with the admiration that you’ll have for Soo Hyun and his role here.
8. My Love from the Star (2013)
Another internationally acclaimed drama that further propelled Soo Hyun’s Hallyu popularity in Asia. The story centers on an alien staying in South Korea since the Joseon Dynasty. The alien, Soo Hyun then falls in love with the modern era top actress played by Jun Ji Hyun. The drama also stars Yoo In Na, Park Hae Jin, Ahn Jae Hyun, Shin Sung Rok and Kim Chang Wan.
9. The Producers (2015)
This is Soo Hyun’s last drama before his enlistment in 2017. The series stars him with Cha Tae Hyun, Gong Hyo Jin and IU. The story features a realistic drama take on the life of variety producers and the hardships they face just to deliver quality shows.
10. Real (2017)
This is Soo Hyun’s last film before his enlistment. It considered to be a neo-noir action film of unique and original plot. Garnering a mixed of positive and negative feedback, everyone agrees however that despite everything Kim Soo Hyun still manage to deliver his great level of acting as usual.
